Berlin Fashion Week A/W09 Scherer Gonzalez

Constanze G. Gonzalez and Paul Scherer are the creative force behind the Berlin-based fashion label Scherer Gonzalez, founded in 2004.
The show was a mix of fairy tale nymph creatures fresh out of the forest, with the models wearing headdresses a mile high with flowers, twigs, and hair woven in between.

This was the first show in a long time where models were instructed to have fun and “act” out as if on a photo shoot at the end of the runway. This definitely pleased the photographers and was a change from the other fashion straight runway shows of today. The models clearly enjoyed each look as they paraded along the runway, glancing arrogantly in mirrors, hiding behind fluttering fans, winking, smirking, and flirting with the cameras.

Scherer Gonzalez tailors its clothing with the finest of materials such as duchess satin, merino, snakeskin, as well as Nappa and goat leather. The fabrics are individually treated with special dyes and vintage silk washes for a look that is entirely unconventional. Not ones to scrimp when it comes to material, the designers favor a subtly opulent aesthetic over cutting corners. The tailoring gives shape to the wearer’s body and accentuates her femininity. The designs appear both laced up and deconstructed, at once voluptuous and light as a feather.
The mastery for details that is evident in every piece of the collection. Couture robes are featured lavish hand-stitched beading and lace. Details like shiny patent-leather piping, ruched hems and appliqued bows along with ornate headdresses and spats especially produced for the show complete the collection’s fairytale look.
